UNIQUE MINERALS WERE DISCOVERED IN AZERBAIJANS MUD VOLCANOES
January 14, 2020
The unique and rare types of minerals were discovered in the mud volcanic breccia due to joint research of Azerbaijani and Ukrainian scientists.
The head of the Department of mud volcanism of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Professor Adil Aliyev said that the studies were carried out as part of the project “Accessory mineralization of the mud volcanic breccia of Azerbaijan”. The studies were conducted jointly with specialists of the Center for Marine Geology, Geoecology and Sedimentation Ore of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences.
The studies revealed the presence of unique mineral composition - natural minerals, nonspecific sulfates, oxides, natural iron minerals (silicate, hematite), as well as rare types of minerals in the breccia of Azerbaijan mud volcanoes. It allows to consider that these minerals are formed under the influence of deep fluids.
