On the Head of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics initiative, the first- and second-years masters and first-year PhD students took part in field training and research practice on “Structural geology and stratigraphy”.

The practice took place in the territories of Pirekeshkul, Siyaki and Jangi (Shamakhi region). Ph.D. in Geology and Mineralogy Ashraf Gurbanov, Ph.D. in Geology and Mineralogy Takhmina Garayeva and the Head of the education department Saadat Alekperova conducted the practice.

During the practice, A. Gurbanov and T. Garaeva together with masters and PhD students visited the Beyuk Siyaki section and Pirekeshkul mud volcano located in the Shamakhi region. The teachers told students about mud volcanoes and also explained that Beyuk Siyaki section consists of Paleocene sediments.

A. Gurbanov explained in detail the layers location in the section, their composition and tectonic processes.

T. Garayeva spoke about of paleomagnetic studies, sampling methods in situ and their significance.

During the practice, students received comprehensive answers to numerous questions.
