    The geothermal research in Azerbaijan began in 1981. Authors of the report have included al the temperature data received during the period of research. This data was gathered during the last 30 years under the leadership of Dr. S.A. Aliyev in the laboratory of Geothermal/Geology institute of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.


    The Atlas
    is composed by the valuable geological-geophysical data of geothermal area of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan part of the Caspian Sea. This data include 8 oil and gas bearing, one prospective oil-and-gas-bearing and two PROGBR. Presently there are 131 local structures enveloped by the Geothermal research from which 99 are onshore and 32 are offshore fields.


    It should be noted
    that the data contained in the atlas, exceeds all previously published geothermal data on Azerbaijan. All relevant maps, graphs and tables of temperature, are available on a digital format and CD media.


    The Atlas
    is assembler by a series of maps and sections of different scale (from 1:10,000 to 1:600,000). All maps and the geological- Geothermal section are constructed based on temperature data. For the regions that have been studied the most, based on temperature data and radioactive elements content (U, Tb, K), models have been built on heat generation distribution and basin evolution.


    The Atlas
    has 180 pages. Much of the data presented therein such as maps, geological-geothermal sections and others, has not been published before. There is data on temperature and heat generation for Garaja, Gamygaya, Chukuryurd and others. Additoinally data on the thermal qualities (Thermo conductivity, Heat capacity and the density of heat flow) can be presented as a second volume of atlas.


    The Atlas
    has a supplement (explanatory note) book with a short description of the cartographic data and geothermal sections, the information about the instruments and the methods of the temperature measuring, the thermal condition of the well during the measuring.


    As a result of long standing years of research, the scientists of the Geology Institute of the Academy of Science of Azerbaijan the originals pages, temperature data base and the text have been compiled.


    "Atlas" contains an explanatory note divided in 3 parts and totaling about 50 pages.

    • Introduction contains 25 pages of different maps. Atlas starts with the Map of Radiational Temperatures of Azerbaijan, photographed from space. The General Geological Maps and 6 schemes, reflecting the structure of Azerbaijan Eearth crust. Here are the Maps of average annual air temperature and different maps of the Earth surface temperatures. Three maps of isotherms reflecting depths of 5000, 7000 and 9000 m. There are also the map of heat flow and Yalama-Baku-Astara geological-geophysical profile.
    • The Geothermal research part contains about 150 pages of geological sections, structures and charts of temperature distribution with depth. These plates are grouped by the oil and gas bearing regions (OGBR). In this part there are also geothermal maps of OGBR, models of Radiogenic heat generation for 6 OGB, geothermal models for 4 OGBR and other data.
    • The thermal water part contains about 20 different maps: "The map of perspective thermal water bearing complexes and distribution in Azerbaijan"; the maps of different water bearing complexes and other.
    • "Atlas" has an appendix as data base represented on "Excel" format. This data base contains about 15000 temperature data from 1900 wells. For model compilation of heatgeneration distribution up to 600 determinations of Radiogenic heat generation were used.
