AZERBAIJANI SCIENCE FACED TO HEAVY LOSS

February 11, 2022

The head of the Sector of metasomatism and ore-formation of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences, Professor Jabrayil Azadaliyev, died at the age of 87.

Azadaliyev Jabrayil Abdulali oglu was born on November 29, 1935 in the v. Makhmudlu of the Gafan region of the Armenian SSR. In 1959 with the honours degree he graduated from the geological-geographical faculty of the Azerbaijan State University (now BSU) and acquired qualification of engineer-geologist.

Since 1959 he worked in the Geology Institute (now the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics).

In 1966 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on “The skarn formation processes in the South Dashkesan iron-ore deposit”, and in 1998 - his doctoral thesis on “Plutonogenic-triune processes of the contact-thermal metamorphism, skarn ore genesis and copper-porphyry mineralization (on the example of the Lesser Caucasus)”.

Scientific interests of Professor Jabrayil Azadaliyev - metasomatism and ore formation, ore fields, genetic mineralogy and geochemistry, metallogeny and applied geology. In general, more than 20 important scientific achievements of the scientist in different years were included in the annual reports of the USSR Academy of Sciences and ANAS.

The scientist proved the calcium skarns convergence of the Earths crust (on the example of calcium skarns of the Lesser Caucasus). For the first time, he characterized “ore-magmatic systems” of Meso-Cenozoic age in the Lesser Caucasus and proposed expressed the idea of dual (indirect and direct) evolution of their hydrothermal activity.

Professor J. Azadaliyev was a participant in more than 60 international, all-Union and republican scientific conferences, meetings and sessions. J. Azadaliyev was well known in the field of metasomatic ore-formation. The scientist was a member of the Committee on metasomatism and metamorphogenic ore-formation of the Council of ore-formation of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1972) and the Commission of metamorphism of the Petrographic Committee Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1983). He was a member of the All-Union Mineralogical Society (1960). He was vice-president of the Azerbaijan Mineralogical Society (1995).

J. Azadaliyev was the author of more than 300 scientific works, including 5 monographs, textbooks, as well as curricula for masters.

For his effective scientific and social activities the scientist was awarded the “Tereggi” medal of Azerbaijan Republic, the “Certificate of Honor” of ANAS, the “Certificate of Honor” of ANAS due to 60th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. The scientist was also awarded the “Certificate of Honor” of ANAS due to his 70th anniversary.

The bright memory of Jabrail Azadaliyev will forever remain in our hearts.

Allah rehmet elesin!
