At the online meeting of the Dissertation Council ED 1.01 (DC), operating at the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG), Ph.D. in geology and mineralogy Elchin Bagirovs dissertation work “Theoretical basis and methodology for geological risks assessment” by for the degree of Doctor of sciences in the Earth sciences was defended (specialty 2521.01 – “Geology, prospecting and exploration of oil and gas fields”).
The dissertation work was carried out at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS. The thesis supervisor- academician Ibrahim Guliyev. Official opponents - corresponding member of ANAS, D.Sc. in geology and mineralogy Elmira Aliyeva, Sc.D. in geology and mineralogy, Professor Vagif Kerimov, Sc.D. in physics and mathematics Adalyat Hasanov, Sc.D. in the Earth sciences Vagif Gadirov.
In the dissertation work the theoretical foundations for assessing geological risks based on the method of mixtures of distributions of random variables and the theory of random processes have been developed. The methodological framework for risk assessment for different types of basins was built. The algorithms for the geological risks assessment on different scales - basins, sedimentation complexes and prospective structures in the territory of Azerbaijan - have been created. The risk maps were constructed for various components of HC systems for the South Caspian basin.
E.Bagirov said that the object of the research is hydrocarbon exploration, the subject – risk assessment methods in this process. At the end the reporter answered the questions of the DC members. Then the discussion was held.
After the electronic voting, it was decided to submit the application to the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to award Bagirov Elchin Bagir oglu the degree of Doctor of Science in the Earth sciences (specialty 2521.01 – “Geology, prospecting and exploration of oil and gas fields”).
