RESEARCH OF ACCESSORY MINERALS AND INTERMETALLIC COMPOUNDS IN MUD VOLCANIC BRECCIA OF AZERBAIJAN – AS NEW AREA OF RESEARCH
March 16, 2020
The comprehensive studies in various direction of the mud volcanism problem, such as deep-immersed oil and gas fields exploration, connection with the seismicity, medicinal properties of volcanic mud, geological and geochemical features of rocks and fluids outcropped to the earth surface (oil, gas, water) carried out in the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics for over 50 years.
In recent years, the study of accessory mineralization of mud volcanic breccia is a new area of research. Before now, the mineralogy of various aged rocks of mud volcanic breccia was studied.
Several years ago, for the first time our Ukrainian colleagues discovered previously unknown accessory minerals and inclusions of native elements and compounds, as a part of the volcano breccia of mud volcanoes based to the result of research conducted on the Black Sea and the Kerch Peninsula.
Currently, IGG scientists in collaboration with Ukrainian scientists are conducting researches on the study of accessory mineralization of the mud volcanic breccia of Azerbaijan. The study of accessory mineralization of mud volcanoes is one of the scientific directions of their genesis perception and arouses scientific interest.
More than 20 new minerals - native elements (gold, silver, iron), sulfides - millerite, pentlandite, oxides - muschketowite, wustite, phosphates - monazite, fluorapatite, silicates - fayalite, forsterite, etc. were discovered due to the conducted studies.
The researche in this direction has been continued.
