REPUBLICAN SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR IN THE FIELD OF EARTH SCIENCES WAS HELD
February 19, 2020
The next Republican scientific seminar in the field of Earth sciences on “The depth assessment of the Moho discontinuity by the method of receiver functions of converted PS waves” was held at the IGG (corresponding member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli and Sabina Kazymova - Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS) was held in the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics.
The Director of the IGG, Academician Akif Alizadeh opened the seminar and informed about the scientific issues on the agenda.
PhD in Geology and Mineralogy, Associate Professor Sabina Kazymova made a report “The depth assessment of the Moho discontinuity by the method of receiver functions of converted PS waves”.
The reporter said that for the first time in Azerbaijan, the depth of the Moho discontinuity was determined by the method of receiver functions of converted PS-waves, based on the analysis of wave characteristics of the distant earthquakes recorded by the Republican Seismic Survey Center. The studies have shown that the Moho discontinuity has deeper levels: 44-47 km in the Guba-Gusar region, 40-43 km in the Zagatala-Balakyan region, 45-48 km in the Shamakhi-Ismayilli districts, 38- 40 km in the Kura depression, 35-42 km in the Talysh district, 44-48 km in the Nakhchivan region and in the Gafan structural zone.
After the report S.Kazymova answered numerous questions.
At the end of the seminar, a discussion was held.
