PALEONTOLOGICAL ATLAS OF AZERBAIJAN IS COMPILING
February 3, 2020
The compilation of generalized and fundamental scientific work “Paleontological atlas of Azerbaijan” has been started in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS.
The aim of atlas compilation is to show the current state of knowledge of the Azerbaijan fauna and flora, as well as to give an image of the composition of the most important groups of fossils.
Since the end of the 20th century, the Department of paleontology of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics has been conducting a comprehensive study of the most important groups of minerals in Azerbaijan. A lot of scientific works on paleontology have been published. The unique collections of fossils from Devonian to Holocene are situated in the Natural History Museum named after Hasan bey Zardabi and in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS. It is planned to publish the Paleontological Atlas in three volumes connection due to accumulated extensive paleontological data.
The first volume will be dedicated to the invertebrate fauna of Azerbaijan (mollusks, brachiopods, crinoids, microfauna, corals, etc.).
The second volume will described the vertebrate fauna of Azerbaijan (hipparionic fauna, mammals, ichthyofauna, birds, etc.).
The third volume will be dedicated to the paleofloristic studies of Azerbaijan (leaf flora, plant pollen, diatoms, dinocysts, nannoplankton, etc.).
