January 23, 2020

Leading researcher of the Department of modern geodynamics and space geodesy of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, PhD of Earth Sciences, associate professor Rafig Safarov became the winner of the competition announced for the post-doctoral research by scientists of ANAS in European scientific institutions.

Under the program, Rafig Safarov will conduct post-doctoral studies at the Laboratory of Earth Sciences at the University of Montpellier in France for 6 months. The goal is to study the patterns of temporal-spatial distributions of horizontal movements and strain rates of the earths crust in the Caucasus. This research work includes the processing of GNSS as well as other geophysical data, development of mathematical and physical models, and the implementation of geological interpretation.

The research will be led by a researcher at the Laboratory of Earth Sciences at the University of Montpellier, a specialist in the field of kinematics and geodynamics in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Dr. Philippe Vernant.
