A NEW MODEL FOR CHANGING THE CASPIAN SEA LEVEL IS BEING DEVELOPED

The research program “Integrated climatic-seismogeodynamic model of the Caspian Sea level variations”, leaded by the Director of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics, academician Akif Alizadeh, was approved.
The program is expected to complete by the end of 2025. The Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Institute of Geography, Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, Institute of Physics of the Earth of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy) and University of Montpellier (France) are the program executors.
Within the framework of the project, an integrated model of sea level variations will be developed due to modern seismogeodynamic conditions and the hydroclimatic factor of the Caspian Sea. The assessment of the tectonic activity of the region and the development of the influence model of the Caspian Sea on the vibration level will be also studied.
The maps of geodynamics, active fault, seismic hazard and seismic zoning will be compiled. These maps may be used for risk analysis in the Ministry of Emergency of the AR, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the AR etc.
The project will also positively effect on the sustainable development of the Pre-Caspian countries.
