FEATURES OF MUD VOLCANOES OF AZERBAIJAN AND UKRAINE STUDIED
The scientists of the two countries conducted a study on the comparative study of complex geological and geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of the mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Research work is carried out jointly with the Department of mud volcanism Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG) of ANAS and Department of Marine Geology and Sedimentary Ore Formations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU). Azerbaijan coordinator of joint research carried out under the project "Comparative study of mud volcanoes in the Azov-Black Sea and Caucasus regions" by Professor Adil Aliyev. His Ukrainian counterpart is the head of department, Academician Evgeny Shnyukov.
The study is the first study of seasonal and accessory minerals in the mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan. These studies formed as a new research area at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics.
According to A. Aliyev, held research in new areas may lead to new information about Mineralogy and Geochemistry of mud volcanoes in both regions. Studies aim to clarify the genetic features of mud volcanoes.
In order to analyze the results of the current joint work A.Aliyev and leading researcher of the department, PhD in earth sciences Orkhan Abbasov were sent to Kiev. They were held extensive discussions at the Department of Marine Geology and Sedimentary Ore Formations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
During the trip, Azerbaijani scientists have visited the colleges and universities of Ukraine in the field of geology, mineralogy and geochemistry, as well as in the State Service of Natural Resources of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. IGG staff were familiar with the material and technical base of these structures. The sides discussed the possibility of a joint study of mud volcanoes and oil shale in both regions in new directions.
Note that the five-year joint project will be completed in 2017.
