The article by the Vice-President of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev and the employee of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics Tariel Huseynov “The existing technogenic intensity across the Mingachevir city requires urgent measures” was published in the journal “Science and Life”. The article is devoted to the problems of existing technogenic risks on the territory of Mingachevir, where strategically important state properties are located (Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Plant AzDRES).

In the Soviet period, the Mingachevir reservoir was on the balance sheet of the Ministry of Water Resources of Azerbaijan. In the article I.Guliyev and T.Huseynov pointed out to that the utilisation and control of water sources in Azerbaijan is not controlled from a shared service center. On the basis of studies, the authors noted that any event that can occur on the dams of the Shamkir and Yenikend reservoirs, tandem with one another over the current Mingachevir reservoir, can cause a strong wave and negatively affect to its stability. The technical condition of many water sources in the country is in a sad state. Real-time automatic control systems equipped with special sensors (extensometers, inclinometers, piezometers, geophones, etc.), as well as appropriate early warning devices about the danger of landslides, are not used.

To solve these problems, the comprehensive studies, including an assessment of the stability of dams, the preparation of the necessary action plan, the instrumentation to hydro-technical utilities monitoring, the seismic prospecting and the waveform study, the training of local specialists to inspection are being carried out. It is necessary to carry out different types of researches with using modern equipment - topogeodetic, engineering-geological, hydrological, geophysical, bathymetric, aerial survey.
