THE NEXT MEETING OF THE IGG SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL WAS HELD

The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics(IGG), dedicated to the results of the scientific-organizational activities of the IGG was held.
The IGG director, academician Akif Alizadeh opened the meeting and introduced the agenda to the participants. Akif Alizadeh said about the new structural changes in the IGG, adopted in accordance with the decision of the Presidium of ANAS. The academician noted the necessity to organize the special seminars for IGG doctoral students and dissertators to improve basic knowledge in the field of geological and geophysical sciences.
Then Larisa Biryukova made a report on the results of IGG doctoral students and dissertators attestation. PhD in the Earth sciences, associate professor Saadat Alekperova spoke about the results of masters theses defence in the Specialized Council for the 2020-2021 academic year.
PhD in Geology and Mineralogy, associate professor Orkhan Abbasov informed about the preparations for the VIII International Scientific Conference of young scientists and students “Innovations in geology and geophysics”. This year the Conference is planned to be held online. The Organizing Committee of the Conference was created and the website was developed. Currently, 50 young scientists and students (28 foreigners and 22 local) have applied for participation in the international conference.
In conclusion, academician Akif Alizadeh summed up the first half of the scientific-organizational activities of the IGG and noted the efficient activities of the Institutes employees over the past 6 months. Thus, the IGG conducted interdisciplinary researches on “Renewable energy sources” (jointly with the ANAS Institute of Geography) and “Technology of mineral raw materials application” (jointly with the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry, the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry). The “Paleontological Atlas of Azerbaijan” was compiled. In addition, “Theoretical and Applied Geology” and “Theoretical Physics of the Earth” courses were organized.
The academician also pointed up the necessity to pay more attention to training, heads of IGG department and supervisors of graduates students must to develop communication with the young scientists.
