THE SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL OF THE INSTITUTE OF GEOLOGY AND GEOPHYSICS WAS HELD

 March 12, 2021

The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG) was held. The director of the institute, academician Akif Alizadeh opened the meeting and introduced the agenda to the participants.

The Doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences Namaz Yusubov made a report on “The Balkhan uplift zone as a free geological structure of the Dostlug (Kapaz) field”. The Dostlug field structure and the field mechanisms were developed on the base of the complex integration of seismic and deep drilling data. The scientist scientifically established that the filed was formed during the post-Miocene and related to rootless structures. N. Yusubov also gave his views on the field formation as a result of the migration through eruptive channels of the mud volcanoes hydrocarbon fluids into the reservoirs of productive strata of the Maikop sedimentary complex. At the end of the report, the scientist answered numerous questions.

Then Academician Akif Alizadeh spoke on “Nizami Ganjavi and Earth Sciences”. The academician noted that by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, 2021 was declared as the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”. A. Alizadeh said that Nizami Ganjavi is one of the rare geniuses in the history of literature and art. His poetry writing is highly esteemed worldwide. His poetry knew no national, racial, religious and geographical bounds. Nizami Ganjavi was not only a poet, but also a scientist, researcher, prominent historian, linguist, who knew several foreign languages, a moralist, whose advice and recommendations didnt behind the times for eight centuries and are of great significance up to now. A. Alizadeh quoted the verses from “Khamsa”, reflecting the scientific ideas of the great poet.

The research implementation of “Stratigraphy and paleogeography of the Miocene deposits of the Southeast Caucasus on the base of complex biostratigraphic, lithological-petrographic, biogeochemical and geophysical researches”, the preparation of the “Course of Theoretical and Applied Geology”, the publication of “Atlas of natural resources of Karabakh” were also discussed in the Scientific Council.

At the end of the meeting, the results of the IGG masters attestation, the new composition of the IGG Council of Young Scientists and Specialists and the other issues were discussed.
