The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS was held.

The Director of the IGG, academician Akif Alizadeh opened the meeting. The academician noted that today the Azerbaijani people are fighting against two enemies - Armenian provocateurs and the COVID-19 pandemic. The scientist also informed that as a result of heroic battles our troops partially liberated a number of occupied areas. The participants of the Scientific Council paid a minutes tribute of silence to the memory of fallen heroes.
Then A. Alizadeh acquainted the participants with the meeting review.

The head of the Department of oil and gas geophysics (the Institute of Oil and Gas of ANAS), Doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences Namaz Yusubov made a report on “New data on the geological structure and geometric parameters of the sedimentary complex in Azerbaijan based on the data of regional seismic studies”.

The reporter noted that the seismostratigraphic analysis of stacked data in the Middle Kura and Lower Kura depressions, as well as in the Middle Caspian and South Caspian depressions (Azerbaijani sectors) and in the Guba-Pre-Caspian oil-and-gas bearing region was carried out using CDP method (GSP). At the end of his report N. Yusubov answered numerous questions from the participants of the meeting.

Then, academician Akif Alizadeh informed about the priority directions of the IGG for 2020-2030, as well as the announcement of joint interdisciplinary researches tender in “Xalq qəzeti”.

Also there were the reports on “Scientific assessment of the prospects of structural and compositional complexes of the northeastern slope of the Lesser Caucasus and Talysh for different types of strategical raw materials (rare and rare earth elements, titanomagnetite sands, radioactive and precious metals) for the purpose of their use in the defense industry” (corresponding member of ANAS Talat Kengerli and Doctor of Geosciences, Professor Musa Mammadov) and “The detection and study of radioactive contamination focuses in the vacated territories of Nagorno-Karabakh using the advanced technology” (corresponding member of ANAS Chingiz Aliyev).

The reports on the LLC “IGG Geoservice” creation (c.g.-m.s. Samir Mammadov), on the implementation of researches carried out in the “Paleontological Museum of Azerbaijan” (senior researcher Tariel Eybatov, Ph.D. in Earth sciences Shafag Bayramova), on the work carried out in the National Information Centres (CTBTO) (academician Fakhraddin Kadirov, Ph.D. in Earth sciences Gulam Babayev), about the work of IGG editorial department (“ANAS Transactions, Earth Sciences”, Stratigraphy and sedimentology of oil and gas basins) (academician Fakhraddin Kadirov, corresponding member of ANAS Elmira Aliyeva, Ph.D. in Earth sciences Gulam Babayev) were also made. The head of the Department of public relations Shirmamed Nazarli made a report on “The Institute of Geology and Geophysics in the Media”.

Ph.D. in Earth sciences Saadat Alekperova spoke about the masters degree program for the 2020/2021 academic year. The topic and the head of the masters thesis by Nazim Aliyev in the specialty “Engineering Geology” were approved.
