The article “New insights into fluid-rock interaction mechanisms at mud volcanoes: Implications for fluid origin and mud provenance at Bahar and Zenbil (Azerbaijan)” of young geologists - leading researcher of the Department of mud volcanism of the ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics, PhD in Earth Sciences Orkhan Abbasov, second-year undergraduate of the Faculty of geology of BSU Aygun Bayramova, and the employee of the French-Azerbaijani University, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences Elshan Abdullayev, was published in the international journal “Chemical Geology”. “Chemical Geology” has Q1 category with 5-year impact factor of 4.169.
Understanding the fluid-rock interactions occurring in terrestrial mud volcanoes is a premise for elucidating the (bio) geochemical processes involved in the release of aqueous fluids, mud and gases to the Earths surface and atmosphere. For the first time, fluid and mud ejecta from the mud volcanoes at Bahar and Zenbil, located in eastern Azerbaijan and in the shallow coastal water of the South Caspian, were collected and analyzed for their mineralogical, textural and chemical composition.
The researches were carried out jointly with the scientists from the Graz University of Technology (Austria).
