YOUNG GEOLOGIST CONDUCTED RESEARCH IN RUSSIA WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF THE SCIENCE DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION UNDER THE PRESIDENT OF THE AZERBAIJAN REPUBLIC
December 19, 2017
Researcher of the Department of mud volcanism of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS, the candidate for the second-year masters degree Elnur Baloglanov became the winner of the 8th “Grant of Mobility” with the support of the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
E. Baloglanov underwent short-term scientific intership at the Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences for carrying out grant project on "Geological and geochemical modeling of mud volcanoes and the estimated forecast of intense eruptions".
Within the framework of the monthly internship a young specialist revealed the regularity of the gas-hydrochemical indicators changes of the mud volcanoes fluids associated, related to the low-amplitude earthquakes, occurring continuously in seismically active regions, based on monitoring of mud volcanoes.
Differences in the geochemical patterns of products of the mud volcanoes activity of various regions were revealed on the base of geochemical studies of mud volcanoes. The chronology of Azerbaijan mud volcanoes and earthquakes eruptions was also considered in detail, whereby the model indicated the role of earthquakes as a triggering in the mud volcanic processes was developed.
Scientific researches and obtained results, monitoring-geochemical studies of Azerbaijan mud volcanoes, as well as the connection of mud volcanism with seismicity, are nonconventional in terms of research and methodological approach and innovations were carried out with the financial support of the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
