Medical Geology – the new direction of researches in geology of Azerbaijan
The institute of geology of National Academy of sciences of
Azerbaijan (ANAS) begins researches in a new direction – medical geology. It
will be studied the influences of geological objects and processes on health of
people, animals and plants. For this purpose the Institute intends to use
practice of foreign countries.
With this aim the young employee of Institute of geology Farah
Velieva has taken part in work of the I international symposium on "Medical
geology", carrying out in Teheran. Scientists participated in a symposium from
Turkey, Czech, Ethiopia, Georgia, Tajikistan, Indonesia and other
countries.
F.Velieva has acted with the report on a theme "Problems of
medical geology in Azerbaijan" about researches in the field of radon
distribution (Rn 222) and arsenic waters in Azerbaijan and their influences on
health of people.
The report has been met with a great interest of participants
of the symposium. The representatives of the Organization on atomic energy of
Iran have expressed the intentions about cooperation with Geology Institute on
studying radon in Azerbaijan, and scientists of Geological Survey of Iran have
suggested the collaboration on medical geology in Azerbaijan.
Let's notice that at the Geology Institute of ANAS it is
occupied with the problem of radon in Azerbaijan about 20 years, but researches
in the field of medical geology in our country have not been spent till
now.
