Distribution of radon gas will be studied in 5 big cities of Azerbaijan.
For the first time, in 5 big cities of our republic –
in Baku, Sumgait, Genje, Shirvan and Mingachevir distribution of radon gas will
be studied and also in the environment and in the administrative
buildings.
Scientists from the university of applied sciences of
Southern Switzerland, Josef Stefan Institute of Slovenia and from Geology
Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Science will carry out the
investigations.
Let us remember radon gas (Rn 222) is very dangerous
for people organisms. One of the heads of project (from Azerbaijan side), chief
of gamma-spectrometria department of the Geological environment of Geology
Institute, Sciences Doctor (in geology and mineralogy)
professor Chingiz Aliyev states, this gas mostly forms as a result of
broken radionuclides pieces spread by technogenic processes. Other basic source
of radon gas is tectonic joints, there is a lot of such kind joints on Azerbaijan
seismoactive zone.
Radon gas emission from such joints fissure is
mostly gathered in the basements and first floors of the buildings.
Project term invested by national science fund of the
Switzerland is 18 months. At present foreign literatures is studying. More than
2000 measuring works are planned to fulfill purpose of the project is
registration of cadastre of radon gas in Azerbaijan and Slovenia , which enables
minimizing problems dealing with gas on the base of swiss experience.
Information is spread by press-service of Geology
Institute Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
